As I've mentioned before, this is the longest period of time I've been running consistently and I suppose I'm paying the price for it. My right knee is being a pain! Literally! It hurts just below the kneecap, which I assume is my patellar tendon. I don't ice it and probably don't do anything I SHOULD do to take care of it. I don't stretch enough and I don't elevate it when I'm sitting down (of course, with the amount of time I actually get to "sit", it probably wouldn't do much good anyway.
So I've been planning a break in running. I'm not sure exactly when I'll do this but I think I'll need to take at least a good month off to see if I can get it back to normal. I'll continue to cross-train and will try to get as much benefit from that as possible. Who knows? Maybe that will help with the recovery.
I'm also debating a marathon in the near future but I'm not sure it's feasible with our potential travel plans for the summer!
Any tips on recovery?? I'd much rather not have to stop running if possible.

Well you don't want to push it too hard, but it sounds like you already know what to do, warm up, stretch, ice after ward. ;D If its not making any difference taking a break from running and engaging in some knee rehab exercises may be the way to go. You can most likely find knee exercises on google.
ReplyDeletePS-try propping it up on a pillow at night when you go to bed.
